RUMOR – Bioshock DLC: The Plasmids are Coming

It seems like Ken Levine has come up with some new plasmids to distribute to gamers. A forum member at the 2K Games forum has found some info on those addictive little power ups.  Although this is unofficial its sort of hard to call BS when it was found in PC Bioshock’s install files.

Marathon Durandal Motion Sickness Patch

I never felt any motion sickness during my time in Marathon, although Freeverse has issued a patch for the queasy. Also this update should fix the matchmaking (so you actually find a freaking game) and tighten the controls for veterans of the retro shooter. If you threw up playing Marathon try it out now and see if Freeverse has cured their vomit problem (and the God awful ranking system).

Peter Molyneux – Xbox Live is "More Impactful" than Wii

The king of overhype and innovation from across the pond always has something to say.  After the amazing claims for the original Fable, Molyneux is doing some fine sucking up to his favorite publisher.  Although his dubious quote is rather crude toward the mushroom kingdom.

“All I can say is that Microsoft is an incredibly smart company and I never fail to be impressed by just how clever they are.  Don’t forget this is the company which pioneered LIVE which I believe will ultimately be far more impactful on video games in the long term than something like the Wii controller.”

While the quote is a little strong he does seem to a have a slight point, wrapped around the outdated Wii bashing.  Xbox Live did define online gaming on a console.  Yet the PC space has had this great feature for years.  Considering the way the Wii has driven casual gamers to get into gaming, this could be a little outrageous.  I personally think that the motion control in the Wii is currently affecting the design of the future xbox, although which feature is the most important in a gaming console?  Molyneux has given his 2 cents what’s yours?

Word has it: over 23,000 xbox live accounts banned for one day(UPDATE 1)

It seems that Microsoft has been dropping the ban hammer on gamers who were using an exploit to get into the Call of Duty 4 Beta. Xbox-Scene posted that according to one of their sources Microsoft banned over 23,000 xbox live accounts for the amazing amount of One Day for using the glitch to get into the beta.

There was an exploit (it’s been resolved), in the call of duty 4 beta. The public beta had 100k valid participants who qualified and were provided special tokens which allowed them to download the COD4 beta from marketplace.
There was an exploit that enabled valid beta participants to sign in with their accounts on a different machine, use their beta token and download the beta. The beta was then fully functional for any LIVE profile on that 2nd machine (even after the beta participant’s account was removed). Approximately 23k consoles were used to take advantage of this exploit to illegitimately access the COD4 beta.

The exploit has been fixed to prevent any additional users from illegitimately accessing the COD4 beta.

The current POR is to issue a 24-hour console lockout that will prevent these 23k users from using their consoles to sign in to LIVE. These users will also receive a message in the dash with an explanation as to why their console has been locked out for 24 hours for violating the LIVE TOU [Terms of Use] and a warning that more severe actions may be taken if they attempt a similar action in the future (console could be banned permanently, etc.). Again, this is not a permanent console ban – it’s more of a “slap on the wrist” and a warning to these 23k users who used this exploit

UPDATE 1- IT seems that Xbox-Scene was wrong. Major Nelson has Updated his blog going against this claim.

The Elder Scrolls® IV: Shivering Isles™ making its way to retail

It can already be found on the Live Marketplace for 2,400 Microsoft points, but Shivering Isles isn’t stopping there. Previously thought to be stopped by Microsoft’s additional content rules of sale, Bethesda’s Elder Scrolls® IV: Shivering Isles™ is indeed coming to a retail shop near you.

Gamers will now be able to play the award-winning expansion to the 2006 Game of the Year, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion®, without accessing Xbox Live® online entertainment network. The retail disc will also include the downloadable content, The Elder Scrolls® IV: Knights of the Nine™.
Shivering Isles for Xbox 360 will be available in retail stores in October.

Crackdown 2 a no go, for now

Speaking to Develop Mag, Real Time Worlds has confirmed that a sequel to Crackdown isn’t currently in the works. Released back in February of this year, Crackdown has become a huge success with much controversy as to whether it was the attaching of the Halo 3 Beta to the game that caused it.

Although the team is in some respects “heartbroken”, “Microsoft were a little late in stepping up to the plate to ask for Crackdown 2, and by then we had already started working on bigger, better things.”

Nevertheless, Real Time Worlds still has its upcoming Cops and Robbers MMO, APB in development. If it turns out to be another hit for the studio is yet to be seen. No sequel to Crackdown or not, lets hope Microsoft can move just a wee bit faster on making its deals from now on. No Xbox 360 owner wants to see the Xbox team be as slow moving as the Windows team has been over the years. If so, a world of unwanted heartache is in store all of us.
