GDC 08: Drop it punk, don’t forget about APB

The Game Developers Conference is over and there’s one developer that’s doing something that may be the next great thing. Slated for the PC primarily, this game/MMO, APB, will be hitting the Xbox 360 as well. Developed by Real Time Worlds, the same studio that developed one of 2007’s lost games, Crackdown, which has largely been forgotten by hordes of gamers and press alike. Why, because it was released ages ago in gaming terms for sure, but the next in line, APB, is definitely one to look forward to next. Unfortunately, we know that there won’t be another Crackdown (at least for a good long while by Real Time Worlds).

While millions slave away in the World of Warcraft money printing machine Blizzard has built, or wait for the PS3’s/PC’s The Agency, PC/360’s players have APB on the horizon. Devoid of conventional MMO styling like level grinding or looting corpse after corpse, APB is setting up to possibly be a great escape from the clutches of the now contemporary way we know MMO’s to be as something on a scale turned up 10 fold that isn’t about orc’s and elf’s anymore. With an aesthetic very much like Crackdown, be sure to keep an eye out for this game.

  1. This game is looking amazing. I think people have glossed over it given the stigma for the term MMO… I did at first. This could be a big deal if it gets hyped up like it should be.

  2. I’ve been hyped for this game since I heard about it.
Truly think its gonna be awesome.

  3. Age of Conan has my MMO money once it comes out, sorry.

  4. I’d rather have Crackdown 2 :/
