Happy Thanksgiving! (not you videogame publishers)

On this day of giving thanks( for those who apply) , I’d like to give thanks to the Xbox team up in Redmond, Washington for being the initial spark for the very existence of such a site as The Xbox Domain. Yes, Xbox Live is nothing less than fantastic, but lets move beyond that of which is immediately obvious coming from a Xbox focused site.

Coming off of what can only be described as a blitz of gaming heaven for the last 3 or so month’s, lets give thanks to the developers and publishers of the interactive medium we so dearly enjoy. Ok, now that that’s done and over with, ah ah ah, not so fast publishers. It’s time to set the record straight once and for all. As gamers every where are sure to have experienced and be thinking, why the hell do you decide to release seemingly every title known to man all at the same freaking time?

We all know your trying to get at that all important holiday shopping market you hold so dearly. Of course, lots of people are bound to be buying a game as a present for someone other than themselve, but why must you not use all 12 month’s in any given year? It takes time to develop a game, that’s a ridiculously given, but don’t think that all of us are going to turn a blind eye when it just so happens to be that time of year again where these games all seem to rap up.

Never again, should any publisher make us force our hand on any purchase because they’re to many great games all at once. That sounds crazy doesn’t it. No one should fear a great game release, but if 50% of them are all released hot on the heals of each other you have to know that in a time like that no one wins. We all are on a constant wait for that next great game. So, why not use all of the time allotted? Thankfully, some games slip their release to get out of the crowd. Nothing should anger a gamer more then the day a hotly anticipated release nears, but because lots of other great releases hit at the same time as well, that game will be left out in the cold due to “lack of funds”.

Sure, games don’t all of a sudden disappear. Sadly, the gaming world revolves around a far to short hot or not schedule that is only magnified by the presence information of Xbox Live that seems to tell every gamer that they aren’t in the know if their not playing the same game that their friends are. Even so, I give this one (actually a few words) word of wisdom for all publishers out there.

The Earth has a 365 day year ( plus or minus when leap). Use all of those days in your schedule please. It’s a given that your game has just been skipped over by the rare phenomenon of “to much choice”. The tragedy known as Pyschonauts is a prime example of this. Money doesn’t grow on tree’s and time sure doesn’t stand still waiting for us to finish your next big release. Let’s be thankful when you learn that this “weird occurrence known as summer” flash’s on your radar once and for all. If dogs and cats can get along, anything is possible.
