Bach sees “No Competition” to Xbox Live

It seems as if the gloves are dropping and all out war is about to break out. Robbie Bach here shows us that he is clearly laughing at Sony’s attempt to jump into the online world with their Home service, that which he says is “no competition” to Xbox Live. recently did an interview with the Xbox chief.

“It’s fair to say that Xbox Live is clearly head and shoulders above anything anyone else has tried to do. We don’t have competition,” said Bach, speaking to the LA Times (< must register to view article).

Sony has done some things online, but nothing that can be called a service. We have a big advantage and we’re going to keep pressing that advantage,” he added.

And even more punches were thrown….

“Perhaps the most important thing we have is over 8 million passionate members who create and define what Xbox Live is. It’s a tough thing to create, and we’re going to continue to nurture it.”

Xbox Live is certainly one of the most organized online services that has ever been available to gamers. What do you guys think? Is Xbox Live clearly head and shoulders above the rest of the industry?

  1. Certainly above what I’ve seen on the Wii, but I can’t really speak for PSN. Certain aspects of it definitely seem well done, though. You can’t really underestimate “free” either.

  2. Something that will get more people to be happy about the Xbox would be having Xbox Live be a free service like the other consoles.

  3. I think that paying for it is worth for having such a good service, of course it could try to improve a little bit more, but I think is the best I´ve seen.

  4. i deffinatly agree, and for all those who want free service then should expect PSN…. u get wat u pay for thats y i hav no problem paying

  5. Aren’t we talking like $4/month if you catch the 12 month subscription for $50? You can’t beat that price for what LIVE has to offer. You want NETZERO? I’d pay a lot more for LIVE, but we’re lucky it is so cheap and still offers a great overall experience.

  6. Here’s the deal with a free Xbox Live Gold. Hop on over to the Marketplace Dashboard Blade and then to the Live is 5ive section or the banner if it is still there. In the Live 5-year retrospective, check out the Story of Xbox LIVE video (it might be the retrospective video, I can’t remember). You’ll hear one of the engineers (I can’t remember his name at the moment) talk about them worrying about if any one would take to the service because of it being a paid service.

He mentions that that fact alone drove them to strive for the best service they could “achieve”, hence the Live team not having a laurel to rest on unlike Sony, where they have no real obligation to their customers to make anything better other than to best what Microsoft has already done. Pride versus hordes of ticked off “paying” customers. Which one would will you more?

We all like free, but that comes at a price somewhere.

  7. Well, I do think paying for it is worthwhile in this case… but the average person out there with a console is probably someone who just wants to be able to play when they want to and not worry about yet another subscription on top of their Internet.

It might be nice for us, but I think the fact that the other services being free (as poor as they may or may not be in comparison) is a big deal and a strong talking point for a lot of people.
